Preamble:

That was the week that Manchester United sealed the Premier League title (again) and Avram Grant looked grumoy (again). It's a tired old cliche I know, but a week IS a long time in football and it has felt a little bit longer for me because there have been so many loose ends to tie up now the season's over. So as I cast my eye over the stories making the news and I ask: "Can everyone please stop doing stuff?!"...

Body:

MONDAY
So that's that then. After nine months of hard tackles, wonder goals and hilarious dives, the English Premier League season came to an end on Sunday with Manchester United claiming the title. It's the club's tenth Premier League win, with Ryan Giggs and Sir Alex Ferguson also notching up the perfect ten following their 2-0 win at Wigan. But is does it mean Fergie is ready to retire now? Apparently not: "How would I be without all this, please tell me,' he says. 'And my wife wouldn't let me retire. She kicks me out of the door at 7am every morning. She's quite a formidable person." More formidable than Fergie? Crikey!

It wasn't all good news for the Premier League teams though. The relegation issue also went down to the final day, with Fulham, Reading and Birmingham all facing the drop, and it was the Cottagers (Fulham) who survived thanks to a Danny Murphy-inspired 1-0 win at Portsmouth. Birmingham now face a tricky task in keeping stars like Mauro Zarate at the club, while Reading may lose influential manager Steve Coppell, who has been ducking questions on his Madejski future all week and seems likely to move on.

Meanwhile, Manchester City's game at Middlesbrough may not have had much effect at either the top, bottom or indeed middle of the Premier League but it was still one of the most shocking ties of the final day. Gareth Southgate's men hit eight, yes, I did say 8 (EIGHT!) past the Eastland's side in what looks certain to be Sven-Goran Eriksson's last game in charge. "It is difficult to take whenever you lose. But, when you lose like this, it is awful," says a dejected Sven. And to Middlesbrough, Sven. Middlesbrough!

TUESDAY
Newcastle United's final day was relatively quiet as they were beaten 3-1 at Everton, but now we're into the summer (yes, already) the usual transfer rumours around Michael Owen are beginning to swell. The club is apparently trying to cut Owen's wages by £2million a year and the England international is not best pleased. Manchester United have been linked with the striker before and are still thought to be interested, but if he does decide to move on, he will also apparently consider a non-Big Four club, with Everton rumoured to be in the running.

Cristiano Ronaldo is also sure to be at the centre of transfer talk this summer, and Real Madrid are already dropping 'hints' about their interest in him. "We are hearing there is still a possibility that Ronaldo will leave United," said one of those spokesman who may or may not actually exist. "Of course, it could still be a case of games being played so that he can get the contract that he wants from United." Ronalo? Playing games and tricks to get what he wants? Never!

If the Portuguese superstar does move on in the summer, United will have a sizeable warchest to spend, and reports suggest that Sir Alex Ferguson will use some of it to sign Luis Fabiano. The Sevilla striker has long since thought to be a target of the United boss, who is rumoured to be hoping to improve his striking options this summer, and they could get him for as little as £8.6million. Or £46.8million. Aaaah, the summer rumour mill. How I've missed you.

WEDNESDAY
The 2007/08 season may be gone, but its certainly not forgotten. Today is to be the day when everyone starts debating the title and Man United's winning of it. Roy Keane leads the way saying that this latest league triumph may not be Sir Alex Ferguson's last, because he is hoping to help the club beat Liverpool's title total of eighteen. United are on seventeen at the moment and Fergie wants to "knock them off their perch" according to Keano.

Didier Drogba's next up, saying that squandered leads against Bolton, Aston Villa, Everton and Wigan cost Chelsea the title. "It is certainly proof of an excess of complacency and a lack of concentration," he explains. "Each time we had the result in our hands, but sometimes we mentally finish games before the referee blows the final whistle. Manchester United deserved their title. They have been rewarded for their consistency."

Still at least Drogba won't have to put up with it for much longer. The free-falling Ivorian is once-more being linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge and he's not doing much to deny it. In fact, he's doing pretty much the opposite. "All footballers dream of signing for AC Milan," he tells The Sun. "I explained to Paolo Maldini that Milan is a club I would love to join." Subtle, Didier. Real subtle.

THURSDAY
The Chelsea grumbling continues today, this time with Avram Grant moaning about Steve Bennett. The referee was at the centre of a few controversies at Wigan Athletic last weekend as he failed to give Paul Scholes a second yellow card and hand the hosts a penalty when Rio Ferdinand appeared to handball in the area. "I think in England there are some very good referees. But there are some, a few of them, you can influence - like you saw. I will not say more than this."

But guess what? He says more. "I do not think the world is against Chelsea. But there were some coincidences for Manchester United. But I congratulate them. What happened is what I expected. When we played United at Old Trafford [when John Obi Mikel was sent-off and United were handed a late penalty] the referee changed the result for sure. We know that." The FA are investigating, unsurprisingly...

Meanwhile, the UEFA Cup final was held in Manchester last night and Russian side Zenit St Petersburg outclassed Rangers to win 2-0 and claim the trophy. But sadly the event hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Before the match, a big screen which was set up in the city centre to allow travelling Rangers fans to watch the game malfunctioned, so a small group of them decided to help fix it by hurling bottles and other missiles in its direction. Now, am not an electrician, but am almost sure that will not work...

FRIDAY
Speaking of unhappy Scots, Sir Alex Ferguson can't be best pleased with Cristiano Ronaldo this morning. The United winger has added weight to the rumours suggesting he will leave Old Trafford in the summer by telling Spanish television he will ponder his future after the Champions League final. "I am feeling calm here. But in the future I don't know," he says. "I don't know Real Madrid as a club, but I do know they like the way I play. It's great to know they're interested in me."

On the other side on Manchester, the Shinawatra shenanigans continue. Not content with getting rid of Sven, Dr Frank apparently wants to ditch half the team, including stars like Joe Hart and Micah Richards. City spokesman Paul Tyrrell isn't happy with the rumours though, blasting: "We are currently taking legal advice regarding these news reports and will pursue those who continue to run or repeat this false story and its allegations without the chairman's rebuttal." Quickly Thaksin, he's doing his job properly. Sack him!

Finally, it's the FA Cup Final on Saturday, and Cardiff City must be getting a bit nervy on the eve of their big day. But not midfielder Joe Ledley it would seem. He has written on his Bebo page that there's very little in the world that he is frightened of. "What scares me? Nuffin," he insists. "I'm hard as nails. Hmmm well sum say I am. But I wouldn't like to cum that close to tarantulars - if that's how u spell it". You can't tell he's a professional footballer, can you?
