Warning: Video contains sexuality and language. Not suited for those under the age of 18.
Grand Theft Auto IV will be released at midnight tonight, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't contemplating heading to future shop at 12:00 am.

But with all kinds of hype, it's only a matter of time before controversy hits. GTA has always pushed boundaries, and the fourth installment is no different. Already videos are surfing on the web showing the main character performing sex acts with various prostitutes in pretty graphic detail.

Now, I have no problem with this. Games aren't just for kids anymore. But I will say I'd be worried about a young kid who makes his character pick up a hooker, then watches as she dishes out some 'street love'. If you're looking to grab a game for your younger kids, try Mario Kart Wii.

Whoa! Didn't expect such a hostile reaction to GTA. While I agree that young children shouldn't be allowed anywhere near this game, I think it's a bit of a stretch to blame it on school shootings and every other bad thing that goes on in the world.

I've been playing games like this since I was about 13 and have had no ill effects. It does irritate me when people blame video games for warping young kids. If you are raised properly video games are just that - a game.

We shouldn't bash things just because of the subject matter. Should we outlaw movies like The Godfather and Goodfellas just because they are full of violence and sex?

No, but you were born well-adjusted. It's the kids that are already brain sick that we have to worry about.

I see we've touched a nerve with you...the game touches a nerve with women who don't like things that desensitize us to violence against women.

Fair enough and I agree with you, but you can find desensitizing material in games, books, music, photography etc. And crazy people are going to be crazy with or without GTA.

Yeah, we can't blame a game for all society's evils...It's just that video games are one thing all the child shooters have had in common. It suggests a correlation, although it's also a case of chicken and egg...which came first? Brain sickness or game sickness?

I think "sexy" is the wrong word here...and we wonder why kids in trench coats are blowing each other up...

I had a young man living with me many years back now whom was essentially my "son" and my kids brother, at 16 he was not to worried about what he did in front of the kids as any 16 year old sibling sibling seems oblivious too.
Except for GTA, I had no understanding of video games back then for I thought they were just "games" until him and my youngest maybe 5ish at the time would always fight about who could be in the "games"room.
In frustration I demanded to know what was going on, he told me that the youngest can't watch this certain game it's to "intense". I had to see what was so bad the 16 year old with poor judgment was laying down some rules.
I was horrified!!
I think he had the first version and you could go to a strip club, get a prostitute, shooting at cops got you points, of course the more cars you stole the more points you got. It was just a horrifying game.
While I am sure we cannot blame all of society's ills on a video game, do we really have to turn the worst of society into a game!?

Is this game rated R? As if video game ratings *really* deters people under 18 anyway...this is crazy, i've never seen a video game this...not even sure what the word is.
