Animation is in and has caught on in recent years not only among kids but also among adults. Here we are transported into never never land and emerge at a place called Malaria. Evil reigns supreme in this community where the goal is to create monsters. Into this mix comes the loveable Igor, an assistant to your typical mad scientist. Out to win a coveted competition Igor helps his boss create a new living entity, much to the delight of ruling monarch King Malbert but the bane of another evil scientist out to win the competition for himself.
Aided and abetted by a winsome wench we have a race against time as Igor does battle with this mad maniac out to rule the world. Help on Igor’s side comes through the auspices of the charming yet juvenile Brain and Scamper with his creation, Eva, clearly the talks of the town.
Wildly flambouyant and full of savvy humour Igor is a delight. Hilarious one-liners from those Igor sidekicks plays off well against the evil machinations of all those mad scientists out to capture this coveted title. Charm school goes out the window as it’s a race against time to try to save Eva and the rest of civilization with poor sad sack Igor much worse for wear.
Swashbuckling, edge of the seat fun emerges from this movie which flies off the screen at ninety odd minutes. Voice work from the likes of Jay Leno, Jennifer Coolidge (American Pie), Eddie Izzard, John Cusack (Runaway Jury), Sean Hayes and Steve Buscemi (Fargo) reel you in. Nice artwork that creates that great gothic doom and gloom atmosphere further heighten the appeal of this movie.
