Editor's Note: On June 26, 2008, the Supreme Court of the United States overturned the DC handgun ban, ruling that the Second Amendment protects an individual's right to possess a firearm for private use. The private possession of handguns had been prohibited in DC since 1976; the DC city council argued the ban was needed to help keep violence and murder rates down. That measure was challenged by security guard Dick Heller, who said if he could have a handgun at work, he had a constitutional right to have one at home as well. This correspondent, along with several hundred other people, camped outside the Supreme Court in the biting cold to catch a glimpse of the case...
