Petrozza: Another Door, Another Day

Chef Gordon Ramsay, exclusive interview, Hell's Kitchen, Petrozza

There were tears, but happy tears.

Christina had fresh ideas. She actually went to the same culinary school I did. She just graduated, and I graduated in ’83…probably before she was born. It is what it is. '

Last night’s finale was the first show I got to see with my two boys. It was actually kind of tough on my 18-year-old; he took it really hard that I didn’t win. How hard did I take it? You know what, I didn’t take it hard. Those were happy tears. I was relieved to have made it as far as I did, was happy with the hand that was dealt, and accepted it for the great thing that it was.

There was actually a malfunction on the set, and my door opened along with Christina’s. Ramsay grabbed me right away and hugged me. I really didn’t know what was going on; I was kind of confused. Ramsay asked me if I forced it open and I said, “No, I just turned the handle.”

I’m a pretty quick study, so with Ramsay hugging me, I figured it out. He said “Petrozza, it’s alright,” and I just thought, ‘Christina won.’ I gave him a big hug back and went downstairs and hung out with my girlfriend and my dad. We celebrated making it as far as we did, and I congratulated Christina for the great job that she did.

I just tried to keep it real, I worked hard, I tried to be good to other people…you don’t get ahead by screwing someone else, because it just doesn’t work. I was very concerned to have Jen on my team. I was worried she would screw things up. I’m not sure she could have screwed it up any worse than she did.

Highs And Lows

My highest high was when Chef Ramsay would compliment me. There’s lessons for us all, and sometimes I need to be reminded too.

The lowest low? When I thought all was lost at the beginning. I couldn’t remember portions of the menu and kept trying to come back down to the kitchen and Ramsay would yell at me to get my ass out. I was just like, “I’m done, I can’t do it. He doesn’t even want me in there.”

Then Bobby came up and said, “C’mon man, he wants you in there. We need you.”

Christina Took The Cake

Why did Christina win? That’s the question of the day.

petrozza. i really think you should have won. if age had something to do with it i dont know why they put you on hell's kitchen in the first place. you are by far more superior than christina.

to be honest, i dont think the services were even as chef ramsey said.

christina had dishes sent back, she didnt even check her food until that happened. that right there should have put her out of the game.

i honestly dont think chef went by your last dinner service at all. even when you struggled with running out of food bobby helped the team bounce back and still you guys catered a good service.

i think ramsey's choice was rather unfair because you clearly deserved to win.

I was rooting for you from the beginning, Petrozza. I thought you were the nicest, most talented, and most experienced chef this season and I was quite depressed when I heard about your loss. But it's good to hear that you're not bitter about the whole thing and glad to have made it as far as you did. You're a class act, Mr. Petrozza, and I wish you the best of luck in your career. It was an honor to watch you this season.

Too bad Petrozza! I really wanted you to win. I hope that Ramsay has the common sense to hook you up somewhere that fits your personality - probably on the east coast seeing as your restaurant mimicked a typical place in the Hamptons. As for Christina - I guess bubble gum charm and a synthetic personality fits L.A. perfectly.

In stark contrast I think Ramsay was right when he called you a gentleman. I wish you the very best of luck in the future.
